Default why android UI is laggy (aka, why iphone 3GS is still smoother than latest androids)

i've always speculated as much about IOS, but never really looked into it... personally, i like apple's philosophy...it makes sense... to the average user, a device's power and performance is generally shown by UI smoothness... no real people sits there and benchmarks their phone... so if you're comparing two devices that are doing the same task, the iphone will seem more powerful than android, even if android finishes faster... it's all about perception. nobody cares if android finishes faster, since no normal people sit and benchmark. all they see is UI lagging and assume that iphone is more powerful because the UI stays smooth.

Android doesnt have hardware acceleration for UI (only ICS).

You can see difference on galaxy s 2. It has browser with hardware acceleration. Opera Mobile has hardware acceleration aswell which makes it smooth even on Spica.

And iPhone doesn't have neither widgets nor multitask(and it obviously is optimized)

It seems to me that article you give is not quite techical- and proffessional-written as it should be for talking about topic like this.

But, here is my opinion. Yes, the iOS is still the best mobile operating system. iPhone cost too much, so my preferable device is iPod. No matter what task you do: browsing internet, listening to music, playing games ect - iOS does it in the best way. Many apps - low price (eg $0.99 for Angry Birds). And iPod is low price.

But still. The Android is the BEST phone. I use it to share internet connection with iPod.

    oh god...
its really so hard to understand that iOS and Android, even if in some aspect they are the same, the are totally different, so its impossible to compare them.
My old SE k800 is faster than iOS/android in normal usage(call, open sms app, camera) so that mean iOS is slow/laggy?
    No.

iOS is VERY closed platform, system is created like old systems from SE, LG, Samsung phones before all this "touch phone" boom. It have separated amount of power ONLY for "candy animation", and all apps are created and optimized ONLY FOR iOS PLATFORM.
Android in other way is open, google didn't say how every app should be created, and what hardware should be in every handset, every user have different phone and some app in background, some widgets in home screen etc. etc. it work in different way than iOS.
If your Launcher is laggy its app problem not android, because other don't lag.

Its not technical explanation but most of people should understand this: iOS don't work like android.

PS as far as I remember android have hardware acceleration:

Lol wp7 is more smoother than iOS & android. Just get your hands on one mango phone. You'll see.

A couple of days ago I got a samsung focus to play with, omfg at 60Hz of refresh rate it was like butter. I was like 'da fuck is this shit for real'. I don't know man never been a fan of Microsoft work. But that is awesome stuff.
