    Arrow Samsung Galaxy i7500 Experience

I bought Samsung Galaxy i7500 for 16K on 7th March 2010 at Bangalore,In. Actualy I've selected Videocon Windows Mobile which cost 13K then saw Galaxy with 128 MB RAM, 8GB internal memory. The Android OS appeals me since am admired by Google. Then Bought one!!

Even the shop seller don't know how to operate the phone. I've started exploring the features myself.
Here the Pros and cons of Galaxy.

    Pros.
+ Nice Home Screen/UI (AMOLED Display).
    + Full Touch Screen interface.
+ Very Good Sound Quality when using Head Phones.
+ 5 MP Camera is good for day time photos.
+ Video Recording gives good clarity videos.
    + 128 Mb RAM & 8 GB Memory Built-in.
+ Can get free applications from Android Market.
+ Can upgrade to Next Version of OS.

    Cons.
    - Android OS Version 1.5 is bit slow.
    - Very limited built-in apps.
    - Even to access Calendar, need to login to Google.
    - No File Manager.
    - Bluetooth is only for Headset and can't use for File Transfer.
    - Playlists will go empty when connect with PC. (Little tiresome)
    - No Profile/Theme support for ringtones/wallpapers/interface.
    - Poor Battery Life (This I can't tell now since it's only 3 days!) But it's not stable atleast one day (24 Hours).
    - The Menu structure seems cluttered and not well formed.
    - The PC Suite supplied with Galaxy is not good. (You can see people telling NPS is total Crap in many forums!) Actualy I feel it's useless.
    - Forunately the SD Card is getting detected by PC and able to copy movies/songs/pictures.
    - Video Formats supported : 3GP, MP4 only. No AVI, WMV, DIVX. (Hope I need to install players).
    - No Animated .GIF files. (It'll show only the first frame).
    - The touch screen senses finger touch only. (ie. You can't use Stylus).
    - I feel the internal design is not good for a Branded Mobile.(It's purely my perspective!).

    Overall Rating
The Pros are less than Cons. So Wait for next version of Android Based Mobiles.

Am Desperatley waiting for Official release of Android 2.1 from Samsung.
All the best for those who are going to buy this mobile and those already acquired one.

    Cheers!

    Regards,
    Venkatesh R

i have a question for you. now i have a nokia 5800 and the major problem is that the ram little(max 50mb available). How did i5700 works is case of multitasking? i reffer when i want to view a sms, to listen music and surfing on the internet. All these on the same time, because on my nokia when open all of these it feels the lack of ram.

I read that this model has only 128 ram and i expect on multitasking to be a little bit annoying. It is true? i found an offert and i can change my phone

The spica (i5700) does multitasking rather well. I'm not sure about the Galaxy (i7500) as I do not have one, but I can imagine similar performance for multitasking. Android handles it pretty well

We're complaining because many people can't even get one day of usage from the phone. I had the same problem until I installed JIT on my phone, after that I get about 2-3 days with normal use (even more if i turn off WiFi when not really needed). The only downside of JIT is that for some people it's not stable and crashes randomly.

    1. Android 1.5 is slow on about any device running it, we can just hope Samsung will release an update, if not, you can always look for custom ROMs, like those made for i5700 by LeshaK.
    2. Since you can download thousands of apps from the market i really don't see why would they bundle more apps with the phone ? If they put 30-50 apps then the users will complain that there are a lot of useless apps that just take up space. Don't forget, you have a limited amount of space where to store the apps (unless you use the Apps2SD hack) so it's not worth having tens of apps that people won't actually use.
3.Yep, the fact that you need to be logged in on Google can be annoying, but it has it's good sides too, it sincronizes your calendar/contacts so you always have an up-to-date-backup of your calendar and contacts, so if anything would happen to your phone you would not loose that info.
    4. The market is full of File Managers, i would suggest Astro and Ghost Commander (looks like FAR/Total Commander/Volcov Commander, it has 2 panels and can copy/move files between them)
    5. That's a limitation from the Android, not the phone, newer android supports more advanced functions for BT
    6. never used playlists, i also never used the built-in music player, Cube and DoubleTwist are just a few of the players that are better than the stock one.
    7. You're probably referring to the "Sense UI"'s ability for different profiles, you can have similar effects with apps from the market. Don't know exactly which ones as i never looked for that functionality.
    8. The poor battery life is well know and it's the same with most Android devices. Installing JIT helps, but since for some JIT is not stable it's not something that beginners should try. Of course, you can prolong the battery life by disabling whatever you're not actually using, for example the WiFi, BT, GPS, Sync, ...
    9. If by "the menu structure" you mean the settings, then you should know that's the "standard Android settings menu", if you mean the menu structure of the home/launcher application, well, you can always change it to something else, for example Helix, ADW Launcher, Launcher2, ... (the Market is full of Home/Launcher apps)
    10. That's a know fact, sadly you need to install the huge application in order to get the drivers for your phone, that's really stupid. Since samsung's app doesn't actually support Android phones, they should release an install kit that installs only the drivers.
    11. I don't see the problem with the card being seen by the PC and having the ability to copy files to it.
    12. You need codecs for watching different kind of movies, don't know if newer versions of Android have more codecs
    13. Android 1.5 limitation, 2.2 (Froyo) doesn't have this limitation any more
    14. that's the "side effect" of using a capacitive screen. There are stylus-es specially designed for capacitive screens, the only problem is that their tip is wider (about as wide as your thumb's center).
    15. internal design is not good ? what exactly do you mean ? users are not likely to see the internals of their phones.

I think that the i5700 and i7500 phones are very good for their price range. Don't forget they cost a lot less than many Android phones, so you can't expect them to have the same features. I wouldn't expect my Spica (i5700) to have the same specs as the HTC Desire which costs about 3-4 times more

P.S. sorry for the long post
