There maybe some positives in becoming ill, which i'm trying to write a list of for myself (things such as becoming more aware of other people's daily suffering)... but even with these positives, i'd still rather never have become ill.

Try getting an internship. Most places around aren't hiring anyway, so if you can intern with a firm you get the experience you need for yourself as well as for your resume. Many times (although who knows now) the firm will hire you after the internship.
