Only police have access to track phone by imei adress. However usually they use this technology when that phone has important information to them. In case of just lost i think that they wouldnt want to help anyway. I don't know however how works police in india. It's just my thought based on my observations

If you have the original bill which will have the IMEI number, then I 'guess' you can file a complaint to get your handset blocked out by mobile service providers. You will not get the phone back but at least it will be useless to the thief if he cant sell it.

Victim uses GPS to track robbers

Read that. It's a case where one guy got robbed from some thieves and used some tracking program to point the police into his robber's location.

Yes, I used to have this "where's my droid"installed on the phone and it actuality work! I just need to send a text message and it will send me back the coordinates, or make it play sound and vibrate
