Don't think app2sd is a speed booster, it just allows you to install your apps to the sd-card.

After a few quick tests on a class 6 sdcard I find no difference in read and write speed between built in memory and sdcard

I enabled apps2sd and put autokiller (optimum setting), I went from 25 free mb to about 50 free mb being reported in autokiller and the phone is definitely faster. I also put autostarts. What should I do with that?! Thanks!!

I find that the local flash is slower compared to a class 6 SD. So apps2sd can boost the performance.

    edit:
btw, my settings for autokiller are
    foreground 6
    visible 8
    secondary 16
    hidden 32
    content 64
    empy 96
Are you still using this with last YONIP that you have? And is it better score with your setting minfree ?
Waiting for CM7 or CM9 Stable daily usage with camera n driver....

Just curious as to why people use these sort of programs especially on 2.2.

They aren't really needed as this isn't a windows OS, where you need to have loads of RAM available. It's based on linux, which is completely different in the way it uses the RAM.

Android keeps the programs in the background and when you need more RAM, programs, which you are no longer using will be killed in order to give the primary app that your using the needed memory (very vague explanation, but read the articles below to see much better detailed explanations with flow graphs explaining how android works).

Also, here are some interesting articles, more so for the reasons as to why not to use a task killer, but it explains how android works:

FAQ: Why You Shouldn’t Be Using a Task Killer with Android

And if your still 100% wanting to use these programs, why use minfree? The settings don't apply after a reboot, the ratings are no where as good or any where as many as this program:

dude its because our spica have very low available ram (160mb only). for higher end phones with 256-512mb ram then you don't need autokiller, minfree. and also, autokiller and minfree are NOT task killers. they still use the native process management capabilities of android 2.2 (unlike task killers) but just tweak the internal settings. in short, they kill processes based on their profiles (whether they run as foreground, background, empty, hidden apps) which is exactly how native android/linux does it, and not just kill indiscriminately like task killers do (which is the reason task killers are source of battery drain). if the process/app is deemed by android system as still important, autokiller/minfree will not kill them. try to feel how sluggish your phone will feel with about 25mb ram left... it takes seconds to load stuff. 40mb-60mb free ram is good for optimum performance

Hmmm, suppose in some ways, I can see your point about our limited RAM. Yeah I am aware that they aren't task killers, they only modify the 2.2 android process of how they handle the memory side of things, The articles where showing why not to use task killers, but they also give very good detailed info with flow charts on how android works.

I might give it a try and see how my mobile works for a few days with the setting set to aggressive.

    Thanks.
