Question [Discussion] Spica as external USB Monitor

    Hi,

I wanna start a discussion about way to use our Spicas as external PC USB monitor.
There is a iDisplay app (which crashes a lot) in Market but it works via wi-fi and the received image is compressed and has low fps...

I know that adding 480x320px resolution display isn't a good idea but it's a nice way to chat while watching a movie for example.

If there aren't any USB solution yet then maybe some wise people who has knowledge will find out how to do that. :P

sorry but you should thing again about that.

If you start movie, focus on film, not on "talking" with friend. Its the same like in cinema, people go to cinema, not to watch a movie, but to eat and talk... sorry for that but: Go Fu$#@ yourself if you do that, no style, no life. I pay for movie not to listen you and your friend eating chips.
Its like having se/x and talking with mother-in-law...

The same is when you talk with someone. imagine a situation: you want to talk with your friend, but he look at his phone and chat with other friend. You like that when someone does not pay attention to you?

And no, i don't thing that another 3.2" screen is good. better buy bigger monitor

Literatim, i didn't asked for opinion about my example... WTF xD
This thread is about the extended monitor via USB so please read the main content and sustain to it before u start posting an useless offtop.

And yes, 3,2" or 3,5" isn't a bad idea to place simple tasks in it. And don't you think, that tweak for Spica could be exported to any tablet after? Which are a little bigger?

Imagine a situation like: Skype window in extended monitor with someone's camera image. And who said that phone cannot ba attached to a main monitor? Or webcam to the phone? (Realy please don't answer to those...) Honestly, i don't wanna talk here about what people think of it including their lifestyle (lol) but about reasonable answers and thoughs like "Is it possible with the hardware, drivers or the software?" or "Can someone even handle creating a tweak like that?".

I also don't like when people who have nothing useful to contribute to the thread jump in and start criticising the idea itself. The example is perfectly fine and illustrates the idea well. As my good friend says "If you got nothing good to say - don't say anything at all".

hehe that was good andriusst xD.
you talk "about people who have nothing useful to contribute" but you should know that:

    1. Your post is less related to this topic than my
    2. your "jump" to this threat with nothing interesting to say
    3. as I write previously: its discussion threat. we discuss here about his example that wasn't to good, and example is key to get help/advice/tip(and as i see its don't get to much attention)
    4. Again, its discussion threat, if you want help in the project, which is not too useful nor necessary, why bother?

This is not my opinion, but logic.

    THE END

I suspect that while possible it would be fairly difficult and would require some sort of 'server' on the PC to be able to pipe display to the phone.

All the hardware is there but I'm not sure the time investment to do it would be worthwhile.

Good riddance, at least he knows when to stop.

Anyway, ReY, I have an idea that might actually work. It is NOT USB but rather wireless solution and it might be possible taking advantage of the following:
    1. Install and setup remote control software on your PC so that it accepts incoming connections (ie TeamViewer). Setup security accordingly to prevent unauthorised access.
    2. Get an Android APP on your phone to connect and control your PC over WLAN or mobile internet. Test and make sure it connects and works fine. Disconnect.
    3. Force TV detection on your PC display driver so that it thinks that TV is connected. This way you will get a "virtual screen" device. Configure it to be an extended display (not clone).
    4. Make your remote control software control this "virtual screen". In Teamviewer options, Presentation tab, Default Monitor, select your TV output.
    5. Connect with remote control app on your phone. There should be a blank screen.
    6. Drag your chat program window off the screen to the right. Watch your phone, windows should appear there. If they did you're done.

Few notes. Majority full-screen applications on your PC don't like loosing focus. That happens when you click with your mouse cursor on the second screen. VLC works fine but Cyberlink Power DVD will switch back to window mode. Others might even crash.

Try adjusting your virtual display resolution to lower or higher to see which works best for you.

Hope this works for you. Feel free to ask any questions if you get stuck. I will try and help as much as I can.

    OR

Just get a chat APP on your phone! lol

There is already wireless solution - app iDisplay from Market which also needs a host application running on PC.
Anyway iDisplay is too slow and laggy via wi-fi, so i realized that USB can only handle sending image in smooth way.
Too bad that iDisplay is an paid app and that could be hard to port the data transmission from wi-fi to USB.

Or I can ask iDisplay devs to add the USB transmission too. :P

Well the solution I described is completely free, very stable and even has input interface to replace keyboard and mouse. Normal displays work only one way as you well know. Are you sure this is about chat messages only? I mean why "send image in a smooth way"? Maybe video streaming would be more suitable?
