as much as samsung DOES suck, lets look at this objectively...

1. the rumours about samsung holding 2.2 back are exactly that... rumours... it's a post on a forum from an unconfirmed source
2. as far as i understand it, samsung is not obligated to release it's kernel changes under the apache license... can anyone confirm or refute this?

Really appreciate everyone spreading the word. There is no harm that can come from this, only showing Samsung the consumer/developers expect more... and we are willing to abandon them after continually being shafted.

Booo! Let us little ant scream how bad and ugly big fat Samsung Pig is! He will definitely hear us and do something about it! Yea! Spread the word. Maybe Samsung will get bored with our booo's.

And tbo - 70% of Spica, Galaxy S (Vibrant etc), other Galaxy series, Galaxy tab etc etc etc just buy phone/tablet and use it. Nothing else. Few of people (about 5%) mod this things, and other 25% use mods. So if you would run stand with green bananas what would you like to do? Upgrade green bananas to yellow or release new series of yellow bananas? And if you would be typical customer you prefer green banana modded for yellow or pure new super hiper yellow banana?

It's nothing new. HTC? Yes, they release new versions of Android to their older phones. But look at their products - G1, Magic, Hero, Desire, Nexus, Desire Z, Desire HD, Incredible, Evo and many more - even when they release for ex. 2.3 for G1 they know people will buy Evo Shift with 2.3

When Samsung release 2.3, 2.4 etc for Galaxy S they know that people won't buy for ex. Nexus S (don't count devs). Understand it. Don't yell because Samsung won't give a damn about your yells. They know you will buy new phone. But when you decide to buy it Samsung probably release great phone which you want in half price as slower HTC.

Your banana example is double bad
1 ( less important) Well as a customer in europe you can get only green banana "modded" for yellow ( when bananas get exported thy have to be green )
2 ( more important) Most ppl cannot afford treat phones like bananas ( buy, eat-use a few weeks, buy a new one as soon there will be new model).

It's strange why Samsung decided to force customers to buy new phones, forgetting that customer who was not pleased by quality of previous phone and lack of support he got will rather search for new one in other company. Than again customer who got great product with good support he will most likely buy new one from the same company, but only when he will be ready to do so.
I my self could not afford high-end phone, I searched the best phones in that I could get and checked opinions on internet. In the end I bought Samsung Spica, even when I have known that it had software buggy as hell. I would not do that if I was not aware of great mod community that improve moded software a lot and could improve it even more.
Maybe in a year or so (not earlier) I will think about buying new phone, and if Samsung will keep its way like that, the new phone will definitely not be their.
If they don't want loose time/money to update older phones, fine , but why not at least share drivers sources and let the work be done by moders? Moders will not be able to overcome hardware limitations anyway so still there will be a need to buy new ones.

I think samsung and many other companies are short sighted as I would be more that happy to pay let's say $5 for an updare - does it hurt to earn (let me think - 10 mln galaxy S handsets times $5) 50mln USD just for releasing an regular upgrades? Even if only 50% of people decided for upgrade circa 20mln USD is still available and waiting to be earned - this would allow them to hire extra 10 developers just to do the new releases and still have many many millions in their pockets - Android in no longer a PHONE it's like a COMPUTER - so they should start thinking like Microsoft - offer upgrades and make millions on them as soon as the price will be low (like $5) almost all people will upgrade - this is almost easy money really!!! They work the OLD way - when FW upgrades were obsolete as new phones got new UI and new HW. They should stop focusing on selling only hardware as money can be made selling software.

If they can't/don't want do it - they should release source code so people that care about us like Leshak could make money as well - I don't care if I donate $5 to Leshak or buy update from Samsung - I'm fine as soon as I have stable and up to date OS on my phone.
