Thumbs down Screen not grounding properly?

Ive seen the news about the EVOs not having 'properly grounded' screens, so they dont work well when youre not holding them, or they are on a insulating surface. I decided to test my Spica. Turns out, having the same problems, with the entire screen. In my lap (jeans) it works ok, on my wooden desk works ok, on my sofa it doesnt work very well at all.

Anyone else having these issues? Is this a design flaw in capacitive design, or would my handset be considered faulty?

(also, what does 'properly grounded' exactly mean?)

Capacitive screens work by letting electricity flow. Therefor you need a closed circuit. To close the circuit, you need grounding. Just like with... A tesla coil

Riiight ok then... So does that mean that the surfaces it doesnt work on are conductive or not conductive? Plus, how is the back of the phone conductive? Im still confused lol xD

It doesn't have to be conductive, but it shouldn't insulate...

Its quite technical stuff and I only understand half of it... I suppose you could get a degree on this stuff xD.

Hmmm I'll do some more research I think, Wikipedia will know!

But, to stop me wondering, can you repeat my problems? Or is it just my phone?

All conductive screens have this, especially cheap ones so, yes I do have this problem as well.
