    Default Rebuild factoryfs.rfs

    Hi all,

I was wondering if it is possible to modify the apps that comes with the factoryfs.rfs of a particular firmware version and repackage it so i could like create my own custom copy of the stock firmware?

I could already access the factoryfs.rfs via linux mount. but need to know if i could make use of the same method to make changes to it and umount so it could be written to? or something?

    Any kind souls to help?

    Thanks in advanced.

that's an interesting idea (or maybe that's a known thing to the experts). In theory, it sounds like it should work. Make the necessary changes in your linux mount, and then unmount it, and use that file for flashing. If it doesn't work, you can always flash back the original fw. Let us know how it goes iin your experiment!

Have already tried this method on the cache.rfs but when I edit the sec_csc.zip and unmount the partition the sec_csc.zip get's corrupted. You can remove things from factoryfs.rfs and flash that without an problem.

The thing is you need factoryfs.rfs and cache.rfs to work because in factoryfs.rfs you only have the "android" files and in the cache.rfs you have the update-script (setting permissions etc..)

I know leshaK created an cache.rfs but I haven't got an answer from him how he did it, so again leshaK how did you create your cache.rfs?

So the second option using update.zip (like on the HTC model) looks the oke way to go. Also Paul from modaco says he created an "custom firmware" and he will be releasing it, but I haven't got an answer from him which method he used.

Anyone has any idea on how can i commit my changes to the factoryfs.rfs?

I modified the contents during mounting, though upon remount, the changes are still there, but one the puzzles me was that the original file which i used to mount doesn't reflect any change of sizes, or signs of being modified.

Am i missing something here or i did it wrongly?

    Anyone having any ideas?

    Thanks! =)

I imagine size wont' change because the size of fs remains unchange. did you try remounting back and see if the changes are still there? (oh you have, and then I think it should be there already)

Interesting, so assuming that's the size of FS (i checked it after you highlighted this - stupid me), but why wouldn't the modified date changes then? hmm...

    Hi,

The idea sounds interesting for me as I am looking for a way to customize some Samsung Galaxy S in warehouse befor shipping.

I have to replace the /system/etc/apns-conf.xml file and install some custom apps.

I had the idea to flash all of them through one custom rfs files with Odin.

Do you have ideas to help me do so. I have More than 300 devices to customize.

    Thanks
