Default [MOD Other] CyanogenMod 7.2 Bigger CallerID Mod

WARNING: THIS METHOD CAN BE DANGEROUS. DON’T DO ANYTHING IF YOU DO NOT KNOW WHAT YOU DO.

Many people have been asking for this mod to be ported to CM7. However, months have passed and nobody got interested in it so I decided to do this on my own. The modification is compatible only with CyanogenMod-7.2-NIGHTLY-Spica-alpha7.x by tom3q and newer. The only thing that is changed is the contact picture size. Dialer numer pad, in-call menu, contact lists, etc. are keeped untouched.

    What does the mod bring:
    - slightly modified Contacts.apk and Phone.apk
    - enlarged contact photo when calling / receiving calls
    - new bitmap for contacts without a contact picture and unknown numbers (see screenshots attached)

There are two versions of this mod available - one with 320x320px (callerid320.zip) and another with 256x256px contact picture (callerid256.zip).
Chosen zip file should be applied via recovery. To revert back to default 96x96 picture size, use "callerid_undo.zip".

Keep in mind that the picture's resolution is a little bit smaller in the dialer app as there are also shadow textrures drawn around the photo.

    NOTE:
You can manually set any photo to be your contact picture and thanks to this modification the icon will be saved in 256x256 / 320x320 resolution. However, during Google synchronization, sync service uploads and then downloads low resolution (96x96 px) pictures from your Gmail account and overwrites what was set manually. Thus, pictures become blurry every time the sync is established. In order to prevent that, it is advisable to disable Contact synchronization in Settings>Accounts & sync>xyz@gmail.com so that the pictures are not overwritten.

    NOTE:
To sync your Facebook profile pictures in bigger resolution use:
    1) SyncMyPix with "Maximum Quality" enabled and "Crop a 96px square" option disabled or
    2) Facebook contact Sync with "Picture Size" set to "Big square" (recommended).

If you want to use this modification with the latest alpha 7.5, a deodexed package of CyanogenMod is required!
You can download it from here: http://forum.samdroid.net/f63/discus...tml#post195178.
Then, simply apply "alpha75_callerid_320.zip" or "alpha75_callerid_256.zip" via recovery. To revert back to stock Gingerbread layout for alpha 7.5, use "alpha75_callerid_undo.zip".

Version for Eclair/Froyo -> see here.

Modification was made for Spica but should also work fine with other phones with CM 7.2 (apks require to be applied manually via ADB for phones other than Spica).

Google annoys me because it keeps the same low res images like 4 years ago when it was launched.

There are apps that can do it but, its obvious, it takes our spica's precious ram and sometimes run with some delay...
so making it in "default" application would be great

    +1 for that

BIGcallerID works, but as said, it's a RAM muncher and slows things down - plus you see the default call screen before that pops up anyway so it's not perfect...

In theory, it should be as easy as changing the values for 256x256 and making it 320x480

However, all the call info (caller number etc.) and the answer/decline sliders would possibly look a bit busy lost on top of a full-screen photo... it's something that would have to be tested

answer/decline slider backgrounds can be transparency.

we have physical buttons, so we can even "disable" sliders (i.e. framework-res.apk modifications) )
