Default How it is done by professionals...

For people interested in how professional companies do development (kernel, drivers, applications) for mobile/embedded systems:

To make their work much easier and more effective, they use development boards which (completely or mostly) resemble the real device in terms of basic hardware, but have also additional peripherals such as ethernet adapter, more serial ports, JTAG connector, LEDs, switches, buttons and other hardware which help greatly in development and debugging.

Such boards exist also for our platform, based on Samsung S3C6410, like tiny6410, mini6410 or real6410. Tiny6410 (with SDK board) is the most interesting one, because it has best price/usability ratio. You can check it here: Tiny6410 | S3C6410 ARM11 Stamp Module - FriendlyARM .

If I only had some spare money, I would buy it right away, probably paired with a JTAG interface for my PC, but it is a cost I can't afford currently - about $250 ($188 for the board, $45 for JTAG interface, $4 for cables, $13 for shipping) in total (though, if 250 people donated just $1, I would... but just dreaming )

Anyway, I'm keeping all the money on my paypal account for this purpose, hoping that some day it raises close to the board price and I will be able to buy it. So if you like my work and would want to make my work easier and more effective, then please consider donating me, even a single buck. (Here is my donation page: LINK, if you want to be put on the list, please put your forum nickname in the description)

+ 1 IT professional who donated $100, BIG THANKS!

Current account balance: $250 collected! BIG THANKS FOR EVERYONE! I'll be buying the board the board as soon as possible, this means that I'm letting paypal transfer the money to my bank account today, but it usually takes 2-3 work days, so I will be able to pay for it on Tuesday or Wednesday, unless I find a way to do that earlier (I might be able to borrow some money and then pay it back when I get the transfer) ;; I've managed to borrow some money and ;; so I'm going to place an order today ;; already ordered the whole set and in the best case I will have the board here on Tuesday. I already received the board.

For people interested what exactly I would be going to buy: (sites in polish, $1 is about 2,8 zł)

OK. Got the package about 2 hours ago. So far everything works correctly. I'm still waiting for a ribbon cable needed to connect the JTAG box to the board as I had to buy it from another seller (should be here tommorow).

I will have to prepare my working environment on my PC and get used to the board and then I will be able start using it.

P.S. Do you want some photos?

It will help in developing drivers for all the hardware embedded in S3C6410, so both kernel and 3d driver.

    YouTube - ‪Samsung I5700 Spica JTAG connection to Riff‬‏

I'm going to buy such JTAG adapter board (the green PCB inserted instead of battery) and clips to connect external power to battery pins of Spica and then I will be able to connect Spica to the J-Link too. No idea whether this will actually work, because the S3C6410 chip of Spica might be fused to require "authorized" JTAG access, similarly to Galaxy S, but hopefully it isn't.

Well if it will you could make some extra money by repairing Spica's Whether by fixing it for people or by buying bricks really cheaply and then sold it as working devices on allegro.
