Default Kernel 2.6.32 from Samsung Acclaim R880 on Spica

    Hi Spica kernel developers,

I've made an attempt to compile and run kernel from Samsung Acclaim R880 on a Spica.

Unlike criminal, I've taken a different approach to do that. Since Acclaim is "almost Spica" in terms of hardware design and components, I decided to use pure Acclaim sources, including modules, except dpram module, which seems to be responsible for initialising and comunicating with modem cpu. I've also used xsr modules and init from Acclaim (although I am not sure I should - see below).

After a little "fight", the kernel runs, but it stops at displaying STANDARD Android tekst "A N D R O I D", instead of usual Samsung logo, which used to be displayed with normal kernels on my phone (only if the phone is not connected to PC during boot process - see below). And I am stuck here.
I am stuck, because there seems to be a problem with handling Spica USB with Acclaim's kernel. If I try to boot with phone connected to PC either with normal cable or "serial" cable (JIG + TTY->RS232) the phone reboots here (output below) (instead of going forward to display "A N D R O I D") :

If I boot whithout any connection, the phone stops at displaying the famous "A N D R O I D" tekst, and if I connect it to PC to get an info what's happening - it imidiately reboots. So I am not able to even see what processes are running, what modules are loaded successfully, what errors are, etc.

If anyone gets any idea about the reboot issue, or can provide more info for example about what is xsr and dpram supposed to do (I mean I do not know if I should use those from Acclaim or Spica), I'll be really thankfull .

Ok. The reboot on attaching a cable to USB is probably caused by the fact that fsa9480_codec_probe() is not called at all. GPIO differences between Acclaim and Spica ? Or what ?

Looks like something is referencing a NULL pointer. Since prepare_to_wait and get_usb_power_state are both kernel functions and nothing added by Samsung, I guess that the problem starts on a bit higher level. Probably some incorrectly/incompletely filled platform data. Seems like something related with USB. Nothing more can I tell from the log at the moment.

A bit off from the topic:
Did you get the serial cable from somewhere or made it yourself? I'd like to have one as it would be pretty useful, but I don't have time/will/whatever to make one myself.

By disabling USB handler I've got the following console output from serial console till the moment when booting stops on displaying "A N D R O I D" on screen. As you can see very little is working .

    Code:
    set_ta_status: Disable
    display_logo: trying 0x5c400000
    display_logo: trying 0x5c400008
    display_logo: trying 0x5c400048
    display_logo: trying 0x5c400050
    display_logo: get_logo_info returns (xres=320, yres=480, size=0x30000)
    LoadJPEG: JPEG check (0xFFD8) failed
    LoadPNG: width:320, height:480, bpp:24, color_type:2, channels:3, rowbytes:960

Here seems to be a problem. But not the only one. See my other console output above .

Now it looks like it gets a wrong partition table or something. Not saying anything about drivers bugs (freeing already free irqs or autorequesting GPIOs), because it should be irrelevant.

Then it must be a problem with xsr (and maybe dpram) modules. I've used xsr from Acclaim so probably here is an explanation.

    EDIT
I have to stop playing with Acclaim's kernel now because Spica is my daughter's phone and she requested to give it back.

I've made it myself from "modules" bought on Allegro and in an internet electronic shop . I bought TTY->RS232 converter, built on ST3232, ready to plug into PC's COM on Allegro, and I bought a MicroUSB B connector in a shop. I soldered both parts with a cable, putting a resistor between pins 4 and 5 and it magically started to work . Exactly as described here An odd Serial Port on Spica (FSA9480 attached)

No, I am not . I took the shortest way to achive a goal. And the goal was to see if the Acclaim's kernel can run at all. Besides, this is only a log - you do not have to care about this issue at all .

Now I have to wait until I will be able to play with my daughter's Spica again to make more tests . I am planning to check, if using original Acclaim's xsr module I will be able to properly mount /system and /data. However there is one thing I have to check first. I have to check what bml devices are available using Acclaim's xsr module. This is the most important, because as far as I can tell, not all Spica_like phones have all ten bml devices .
